About Palladium (XPD)
Palladium (symbol XPD) is a silvery-white precious metal in the platinum group, quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. Its dominant use is in catalytic converters for gasoline engines, which ties its price closely to the auto industry.
Mine supply is concentrated in Russia and South Africa and comes largely as a by-product of platinum and nickel, so the market is prone to sharp deficits and spikes. Substitution between palladium and platinum in autocatalysts is a key long-term driver of the price.
