About Platinum (XPT)
Platinum (symbol XPT) is a dense, rare precious metal quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. Most demand is industrial: it is the key catalyst in diesel autocatalysts that clean vehicle exhaust, and it is also used in jewellery, chemical processing, and hydrogen fuel cells.
Supply is highly concentrated in South Africa and Russia, so the price is sensitive to mining disruptions, power constraints, and shifts between diesel and gasoline vehicles. Platinum has historically traded near or above gold, but the relationship moves with the industrial cycle.
